Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Saturday condemned the kidnapping of the Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan saying it as an act against humanity.
"It is extremely shocking and surprising that someone should kidnap a reporter. Journalists do their work for the entire humankind," Vajpayee said on the sidelines of a public function at his house.
India accuses Pakistan of backing terrorism in Kashmir and recently have mounted a diplomatic offensive against its western neighbour to crack down on militant groups.
The kidnappers of US journalist Pearl have accused him of being an Israeli intelligence agent and have threatened to kill him, if the United States does not release Pakistanis captured in Afghanistan.
They have also sent an e-mail to western and Pakistani news agencies saying other American journalists in Pakistan were targets, according to The Wall Street Journal.
