Water level in Mettur Dam crosses 120 ft mark after 8 yr gap

After an eight year gap, the water level in Mettur dam, the main storage across River Cauvery in Tamil Nadu, has crossed the Full Reservoir Level of 120 feet.

Salem (TN): After an eight year gap, the water level in Mettur dam, the main storage across River Cauvery in Tamil Nadu, has crossed the Full Reservoir Level of 120 feet.
PWD sources said the water level touched 121 feet at around 9 PM last night, the first time it has touched this level since 2005.

Inflows from surplus water released by dams in Karnataka, which have received heavy rains, was 1,29,882 cusecs while the outflow was 1,11,792 cusecs. Demand for irrigation purposes was 25,000 cusecs, they said.

The sources said two flood warnings had already been issued to 11 downstream districts.

They said the District Collector and Superintendent of Police are camping here and monitoring the situation.
