West Bengal Assembly to discuss chit fund issue on Wednesday

The West Bengal Assembly will discuss the chit fund issue and its fallout on the last day of its ongoing Budget Session on Wednesday.

Kolkata: The West Bengal Assembly will discuss the chit fund issue and its fallout on the last day of its ongoing Budget Session on Wednesday.

Announcing this, state's Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee said that the non-official discussion would centre around chit fund and its fallout since 1980 to 2014.

Claiming that no one in her party was involved in the chit fund scam, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had requested Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee last Friday to allow a discussion on chit funds which flourished in West Bengal since early 80's.

She had said that there should be a concrete discussion on the issue and the people should know the facts.

Banerjee had also sought to know why a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court on chit fund business only after 2009, while noting that the businesses flourished in the state under the Left Front rule since early 80's.

The House will also take up another non-official discussion against privatisation of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here on the same day, Chatterjee said.
