New Delhi: Buli Basumatary, a gold medallist at the National Senior Archery Championship, has been forced to sell oranges on streets to earn a living for herself and her family.

Buli, who won two gold and a silver at the national sub-junior level, left the sport in 2010 due to sickness.

Speaking to ANI, the Archer shared her ordeal saying she was denied a job in Assam police.

"I have been selling oranges for three years now. I have won many medals and had applied for a job in Assam Police but didn't get it," she told ANI.

However, after her story went viral on social media, it caught the attention of Assam's Sports Minister Pallab Lochan Das, who said that Buli would be appointed as an archery coach.

"We will appoint Buli Basumatary as an archery coach next week. She will be given short-term training in Punjab later on," he said.

We hope Buli gets the job as soon as possible after which she can nurture aspiring archers to do well in future.
