11 Big Companies That Have Fired Employees In Latest Lay-Off Spree

According to 9to5Google, Google is restructuring its Devices & Services group and eliminating "a few hundred roles" within the organization, mostly in its augmented reality hardware team.

 

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Amazon is terminating the employment of hundreds of people from Prime Video and MGM Studios in addition to 5 percent of its Audible employees.

 

According to Bloomberg, the live-streaming platform Twitch is laying off 500 workers, or 35 percent of its workforce. The layoffs come after several high-ranking executives left and worries about Twitch's losses, which are owned by Amazon.

 

Approximately 1,800 employees of Unity Software, a company that produces tools for video game development, are being let go, according to Reuters. Of its personnel, 25 percent is affected by the cuts.

 

According to The Wall Street Journal, as part of a restructuring under new leadership, Xerox plans to lay off 15 percent of its workers.

 

The New York Times reports that The Messenger, a startup providing digital news, is laying off about twenty staff due to little cash on hand.

 

Just a few months before the state's minimum wage is raised to $20 per hour, Pizza Hut shops in southern California are letting go of more than 1,200 delivery drivers, according to the Los Angeles Times.

 

According to CNBC, Nike is laying off an undisclosed number of workers in an attempt to reduce expenses by $2 billion over the next three years.

 

According to Variety, Tidal, a streaming service for music, has let go of about 40 employees or 10 percent of its workforce. Block, Jack Dorsey's payment startup, owns the majority of Tidal and is looking to limit the number of employees there.

 

According to CNBC, Twilio is cutting off 300 workers, or 5 percent of its total workforce, mostly in its data and apps division.

 

In early December, Spotify said that it was implementing a third round of layoffs, resulting in the loss of 1,500 employees, or approximately 17 percent of its workforce.
