Minto bridge may be fine, but pictures of waterlogged Delhi still quite worrying

Even as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised to make the water drainage system world-class in the city, the pictures from across the national capital tell paint a different picture. Rain lashed parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) in the early hours of Sunday (August 1). In the midst of the monsoon season, the national capital has been receiving spells of rain.

Vehicles commuting from the Yamuna Bazar area witnessed heavy waterlogging due to heavy rainfall.

Overflowing Naini Lake in Model Town has become a cause of concern for residents of nearby areas. "The lake started overflowing on July 15 and has inundated the walkway. There is also a risk of the spread of vector-borne diseases," Mukesh Aggarwal, a local was quoted as saying by ANI.

National weather forecasting agency India Meteorological Department on Sunday morning predicted thunderstorm with moderate to heavy intensity rain over Delhi and NCR.

The city received an average of 43.6 mm of rainfall till 8:30 am, according to the IMD. Further the temperature in the national capital dipped as the city reported a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celcius, as per the weather department.
