SunRisers Hyderabad's David Warner captured his third orange cap in last years edition as he scored 692 runs in 12 matches at an amazing average of 69.20 with a strike-rate of 143.86.

Warner came into the tournament looking for redemption as he was making a comeback following his cricketing ban due to the ball tampering scandal. The Australian also had to sit-out of the 2018 IPL because of the ban.

The opener played a key role as his side reached the playoffs with his consistency up-front. Warner made one century and seven half-centuries.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson displayed his composure and prowess with the bat to an excellent measure in IPL 2018.

Williamson captained the side and took them to the finals, in the absence of David Warner who was banned due to the ball tampering scandal.

The Kiwi batsman played a vital role in the middle-order, playing the role of the sheet-anchor. 

In 17 matches, Williamson scored 735 runs at an average of 52.50 and a strike-rate of 142.44.

After narrowly getting edged out for the 2016 edition's orange cap by Virat Kohli, David warner continued his fine-run and won his second orange cap in IPL 2017.

Captaining his side, Warner showcased excellent consistency with the bat as SunRisers reached the playoffs in 2017. The Australian opener scored 641 runs in 14 matches at an average of 58.27 and a strike-rate of 141.81. 

 

RCB's Virat Kohli: Orange Cap winner in IPL 2016

The batting maestro came into IPL 2016 with a point to prove after Royal Challengers Bangalore's dismal performances in the past few editions. 

Captaining RCB and often opening the innings, Kohli almost single-handedly took his side to the finals of the 2016 edition, where they were narrowly edged out by SRH. 

Kohli scored an unbelieveable 973 runs in the tournament, which still remains a record for most runs in a single edition. The Indian finished with an average of 81.08 and a strike-rate of 152.03. He also scored a record four centuries in this edition.

Captaining SunRisers Hyderabad, Australian opener David warner was in fine touch in IPL 2015. Although, SRH couldn't reach the IPL playoffs that year, Warner ensured that he paved the way for his side with his consistent performances with the bat.

In 14 matches, Warner scored 562 runs at an average of 43.23. His strike-rate of 156.54 helped in giving rapid starts to SRH throughout the tournament.

KKR's Robin Uthappa was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2014

Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Robin Uthappa was the top-scorer in the 2014 edition of IPL and won the orange cap. 

Batting in the middle-order, Uthappa became a dependable work horse for KKR as they won the IPL crown for the second time.

In 16 matches, Uthappa scored 660 runs at an average of 44 with a strike-rate of 137.78.

CSK's Mike Hussey: Orange Cap winner in IPL 2013

Mr Cricket Mike Hussey was a vital cog in the Chennai Super Kings line-up of 2013. Hussey's prowess and finishing with the bat took CSK to the finals of the 2013 edition.

The Australian, Hussey, scored 733 runs in 17 matches at an average of 52.35 with a decent strike-rate of 129.50.

RCB's Chris Gayle was the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2012

The universe boss Chris Gayle was back at it in 2012 and continued his mesmerising run from last year. His opening exploits for RCB that year were even better than in 2011. Gayle became the first man in IPL history to cross the 700-run mark in a single season. 

In 15 matches, Gayle scored 733 runs at an everage of 61.08 and a searing strike-rate of 160.74. The West Indian made one century and seven half-centuries in this edition.

The era of the universe boss started in 2011. Royal Challengers Bangalore opening batsman Chris Gayle provided rapid starts to his team and took the opposition bowlers to the cleaners. The boundaries seemed shorter when Gayle came in to bat. His opening exploits were instrumental in RCB's run to the finals of the tournament where they were edged out by CSK.

Gayle scored 608 runs in 12 matches at an astonishing average of 67.55 and a breathtaking strike-rate of 183.13. Gayle also scored two centuries in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians' Sachin Tendulkar won the Orange Cap in IPL 2010

The master blaster was in scintillating form in the 2010 edition of IPL. Tendulkar, captaining Mumbai, led from the front and guided his side to the finals where they narrowly lost to the MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings.

Sachin scored 618 runs in 15 matches at an average of 47.53 and a strike-rate of 132.61.

Chennai Super Kings opener Matthew Hayden: Orange Cap winner of IPL 2009

This wasn't a surprise at all. Hayden, representing Chennai Super Kings, justified his billing as one of the hardest hitters in the game at that time as he scored 572 runs in the 2009 edition of IPL. The Australian scored these runs in just 12 matches at an average of 52 with a magnificient strike-rate of 144.81.

The second season of the IPL was played in South Africa and Hayden enjoyed himself on the bouncy tracks which were quite similar to the his home conditions in Australia.

Kings XI Punjab's Shaun Marsh was the inaugural Orange Cap winner in IPL 2008

Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, playing for Kings XI Punjab was the inaugral winner of the orange cap in 2008. The left-hand batsman scored 616 runs from just 11 matches at a phenomenal average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68.  Marsh scored one century and five half-centuries as he took KXIP to the semifinals of the maiden edition of IPL. 

With all IPL teams having star-studded batting lineups, Marsh's orange cap victory came as a surprise to many.
