Paris Olympics 2024: Meet Indian Men's Hockey Team Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, Whose Father Sold His Cow to Buy His First Kit, Retires On High

Former India captain and Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey hailed goalkeeper PR Sreejesh as the "God of hockey" for the national team. Sreejesh made several crucial saves, including in the penalty shootout, leading to a magnificent win over Great Britain in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.  The 36-year-old, a veteran of 328 International caps, including three Olympic Games, and multiple Commonwealth Games and World Cups, is playing his fourth Olympics in Paris.

PR Sreejesh Arjuna And Padma Shri Awardee

Retiring India Goalkeeper has received the Arjuna Award in 2013 and Padma Shri in 2017 from the Government of India. PR Sreejesh was born into a family of farmers in the Kizhakkambalam village of Ernakulam district in Kerala, PR Sreejesh was never keen on pursuing hockey as a sport. His father sold his cow to buy his first hockey kit.

2011 Asian Champions Trophy Final
