Bailey says onus on umpires, not players to make right use of DRS

Sydney: Australia batsman George Bailey has claimed it’s the responsibility of the on-field umpires to make the right decisions in a cricket match and a player should not feel guilty on using the Decision Review System (DRS).

Captain Michael Clarke used his team’s only review in Sunday`s washed out one-day clash with Sri Lanka at the SCG when he was given out leg before wicket for 20. Australia was left with no recourse when Dave Warner (60) and Moses Henriques (3) then copped bad decisions on the way to Australia`s 9-222. Bailey said a player should not feel guilty if he has used the DRS and then an umpire makes a bad decision. The Australia Twenty20 captain added that he thinks the DRS is there for the howler and the onus is still on the umpires to make the right decision. Both Australia and Sri Lanka are allowed just one unsuccessful review in the 50-over series. Bailey said there had been no proclamation that players be certain they are not out before they potentially used it up. The limited over expert claimed he doesn’t think any want to be seen as a player who is reviewing everything just on the off chance the bowler might have overstepped, adding that generally players have a reason if they`re going to use it. Bailey defended Clarke`s decision, saying the ball that dismissed the captain had been close to hitting him outside the line and bouncing over the stumps. ANI
