New Delhi: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati has been making headlines for a long time.
The movie has been caught up in numerous controversies with the latest protest taking place in Chittorgarh, Queen Padmavati's hometown. The protestors are demanding to stop the release of the film.
Union Minister Uma Bharti took to Twitter and suggested a way to end the Padmavati controversy forever.
She tweeted in Hindi:
"Why not form a committee with historians, the filmmaker, the protesters and the censor board and take a decision?"
In yet another Tweet, she said-
"I request to not associating the film ‘Padmavati’ with the Rajput community instead with the pride of Indian woman,”
Here are her Twitter posts:
रानी पद्मावती के विषय पर मैं तटस्थ नही रह सकती। मेरा निवेदन है कि पद्मावती को राजपूत समाज से न जोड़कर भारतीय नारी के अस्मिता से जोड़ा जाए।/1 — Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 3, 2017
2 — Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 3, 2017
I stand firm. No non-sense with Indian woman's pride - past, present or future. — Uma Bharti (@umasribharti) November 3, 2017
Padmavati is slated to release on December 1 and stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The movie's first song Ghoomar was recently released.
Vishavbandhu Rathore, an official of the Sri Rajput Karni Sena, an organisation leading the march, said:
"We are not against the movie as such. What we want is that Bhansali's team should screen the movie for historians and intellectuals before releasing it as we are afraid and concerned that historical facts have been distorted in the movie"
