Xiaomi Mi Protect smartphone, tablet insurance launched in India

New Delhi: Xiaomi, has announced Mi Protect insurance service for the smartphones and tablets bought through its website Mi.com.

The 'insurance plan' for Mi phones will covers accidental and liquid damages. However, the phones that have been individually bought from the other sites or modes, will not be eligible for insurance protection.

Mi insurance can be bought as a bundled service  with the phone from Mi.com. 

The Mi Protect plan will be available at Rs Rs 275 for the Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime smartphones, and at Rs. 499 for the Mi 4 16GB, Mi 4i 16GB, and MiPad. In addition, Mi Protect users will also get free-of-cost pick and drop service for repair of the handset. The company in a press statement confirms that users will get a second servicing for free within one year of activation. Mi Protect insurance service will also enable blocking of SIM cards on the stolen device from anywhere around the world. The SIM misuse insurance cover of up to Rs. 3,000, 1GB of cloud storage feature, free call assistance to new smartphone users are other features of the service. The subscribers of the plan will also get access to 24x7 call centre support to report damages.
