Concerts are important for musical growth: Shankar Mahadevan

New Delhi: Composer Shankar Mahadevan, who will perform live at Channel V`s Nokia Indiafest in Goa this week, says musical concerts are very important to nurture young talents in the country.
Shankar, 45, will team up with Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa for the two-day festival commencing from January 18.
"There is so much talent in the country and it goes waste because they don`t get requisite platform. Western countries host so many concerts and that`s how they nurture fresh talents. This is something which we miss drastically. There are many great musicians from the non-filmi background in India, who make some great music," Shankar told reporters. The music festival will also mark the return of actor-singer Farhan Akhtar after a year and half on stage. Shankar, however, will be unable to jam with Farhan, with whom he worked in national-award winning film `Rock On!`. "I will miss sharing the stage with Farhan because I have to leave on January 19 for some work. But Ehsaan and Loy will be there with him. Farhan is a great singer and his music is fresh," he said. Talking about the performance, the singer said it will be a mix of best of their compositions right from `Dil Chahta Hai` to `Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara`. "It will be a high energy show and we will be performing all our popular music. Audience know all our songs but we will mould the tune of them according to the audience`s taste. This is one of the important perks of performing live than creating music in the studio," Shankar said. The music composer trio is currently busy with their Bollywood projects. They are composing music for Abhay Deol`s production, Karan Johar`s `2 States` and Shaad Ali`s `Kill Dil`. "So far we have a great journey in Bollywood, thanks to our filmmakers. They give us enough space to churn out unique numbers everytime. Music is like an experiment to us," said Shankar. PTI
