Cabinet to consider presenting Budget for 2017-18 on February 1

The Union Cabinet is likely to consider proposal to advance the Union Budget to February 1. It is expected that after the Cabinet's decision on Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs would take final decision on the exact date for the session.

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet is likely to consider proposal to advance the Union Budget to February 1

Currently, the Union Budget is presented on the last day of February.

It is expected that after the Cabinet's decision on Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs would take final decision on the exact date for the session.

It is also expected that the cabinet may also take up the proposal to merge the Railway Budget with General budget and segregation of the Budget into plan and non-plan expenditure, and replace it with Capital and Revenue expenditure.

The government is considering early presentation of Budget 2017-18, so that all legislative works and disbursal of funds to states, begin much before the next fiscal begins in April.
