Shammi, the man who made `Yahoo` a world famous jargon patronized freestyle dancing and romanced Kashmir ki kali. His love for Kashmir was profound and which is why his remains were immersed in the iconic Dal Lake. As his fans said, he must be certainly dancing in the heaven too.
The evergreen hero of Hindi cinema Dev Anand was youth personified even at 88 when he breathed his last. The ever energetic legend died of a massive heart attack while in his sleep and left the world of Hindi Cinema directionless, for he was the ultimate `Guide`. The `Jewel Thief` stole hearts of movie buffs with his style and the trademark puffed hairdo. And there is certainly no resting in peace for a super energetic person like him even in heaven. The year also left music lovers teary eyed as veteran singer-composers Jagjit Singh and Bhupen Hazarika ended their journeys on earth. Sarangi maestro Ustad Sultan Khan too bid goodbye forever leaving lovers of the musical instrument in a state of shock. The fraternity of artists’ too suffered great loss with the death of controversial painter MF Husain and Jehangir Sabavala. Husain had to live his last years in exile following protests from the saffron brigade in India who were against his work. Nonetheless, he inspired generations of artists and was called the `Picasso of India`.
