`Skyfall` takes 3 gongs at Jameson Empire Awards

London: The latest James Bond film `Sky Fall` has won 3 awards at Jameson Empire Awards 2013 after missing out at Oscar and Bafta.
While the James Bond film was a huge box office hit, it was overlooked at the Oscars and the Baftas in the best film and best director categories. At a ceremony at London`s Grosvenor House Hotel, Sam Mendes took home the best director and best film awards for his 007 effort Skyfall, along with the Empire Inspiration award. Mendes later said that for him if his if films inspired a couple of people, or kids sitting in the back of a dark auditorium, then he feels it was worth it. Helen Mirren received the Empire Legend award for her screen career of five decades that included extraordinary performances in The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, And Her Lover, Gosford Park, The Queen and this year`s Hitchcock. The 67-year-old actress joked that she felt too young to receive the award. She further added that why couldn`t they wait for 20 odd years before making her a legend. Danny Boyle, the British director who has enjoyed a career of critically acclaimed films like Shallow Grave, the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting and thriller Trance was celebrated for his film career and was presented with the Empire Outstanding Contribution award. Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe was named this year`s Empire Hero, while his film `The Woman in Black` won the award for Best Horror. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, grabbed two awards. The film was awarded for the Best Sci-Fi Fantasy and Martin Freeman got the Best Actor award for his outstanding performance in the movie. ANI
