Sometimes bizarre incidents do lead to a good read. An ex-Google employee, Sanmay Ved, was successfully able to buy google.com domain name for USD 12, only for a minute, to later realise that his transaction later was canceled.

Crazy that it might sound, Ved, noticed that google.com domain name was available to buy. He immediately added it to his shopping cart and he found that the transaction went through.

Ved, in his LinkedIn post wrote, “I was hoping I would get an error at sometime saying transaction did not go through, but I was able to complete purchase, and my credit card was actually charged!”

“Additionally, I started receiving notifications, for when ownership changed (along with new owner details etc.) in the Google Search Console for websites (I will not name them) that are powered by Google Sites (which makes sense given that websites powered by Google Sites rest on the master domain Google.com). Quite clearly, ownership had been granted to me. Order was successful,” he further stated.

However, his google.com ownership lasted only for a minute, for, Google immediately emailed him, stating it had canceled the order. Google also refunded Ved the $12 that he had paid.

Ved, in his post wrote, “I have reported the incident to Google Security. Google has reverted back, and has acknowledged the incident.”
