Mumbai, March 20: Amitabh Bachchan is ready to play his political innings! Yes, the Big B is in an experimental mood once again and has agreed to do a Prakash Jha film based on the sensitive and controversial theme of job reservation and the violence that rocked the nation from 1979 onwards.
The actor has not many political films to his credit. And Prakash Jha’s ‘Aarakshan’ will see him in the role of a political figure. Prakash Jha said to a news daily, “We were in talks since a long time. Now Mr Bachchan has finally found the time. We begin shooting early next year.” The film is bound to stir controversy as it revolves around the time when Mandal Comission was ordered, according to which, a certain quota of jobs were to be reserved for backward classes. This had led to suicides and backlash for VP Singh government. What comes as a surprise is Amitabh’s readiness to act in such a controversial theme. The film will be produced by Feroz Nadiadwala and is set in a north Indian city (presumably Bihar) and will be shot in Bhopal. Prakash Jha added, “After shooting my latest film Rajneeti in Bhopal, I have fallen in love with the city. I have persuaded Mr Bachchan to shoot here — it’s the best place to shoot ‘Aarakshan’.” Wonder, what would `bhai` Amar Singh say to that!
