Indian films at Cannes this year

Anurag Kashyap says this is the greatest year for Indian cinema at Cannes.

New Delhi: Come May and Cannes film festival fever grips film aficionados from the across the world. The annual event is widely known for film producers to launch their new films and attempt to sell their works to the distributors who come from all over the globe.
Talented filmmaker Anurag Kashyap says that this is the greatest year for Indian cinema as four films from the country has been selected at the Cannes 2012. There is ‘Miss Lovely’ which has been directed by Ashim Ahluwalia. Set in 1986 Mumbai, it`s the story of two brothers who make underground films (with titles such as Lady James Bond) for a small-town picture house. Cracks in their fraternal relationship appear with the arrival of a vulnerable young actress. Then making an appearance in Critics` Week is the Hindi-language film ‘Peddlers’ by Vasan Bala, about three unusual characters whose paths cross in Mumbai. Next is Anurag Kashyap’s two part series ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. The film is a tale of family vengeance, spanning three generations and runs for a testing five hours and 20 minutes. And the fourth film which goes into Cannes Classic is Uday Shakar’s 1948 fil ‘Kalpana’. The Indian film is being restored by Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese. Cannes film festival, founded in 1946, is the worlds most prestigious and publicized film festival. The 2012 Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16 to May 27, 2012. The President of the Jury is the Italian film director Nanni Moretti.
