Mumbai: Directed by Abhishek Chaubey and jointly produced by Anurag Kashyap, Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures – Udta Punjab – starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Doshanjh and Alia Bhatt has released today!

The multi-starrer that deals with the drug menace made headlines in the recent past following a fight between the makers of the film and the censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani.

Now that the Bombay High Court has pronounced its verdict in favour of the film, ‘Udta Punjab’ is gearing up to enthral moviegoers who have been eagerly waiting for it.

Here’s taking a look at five reasons to watch the much talked about film:

Shahid Kapoor as Tommy Singh

From what we could see in the trailer of the film, it looks like Tommy Singh will outshine ‘Haider’ as Shahid’s best on screen character. The very talented actor seems to have put his heart & soul, sweat & blood to bring this character to life on screen. Tommy Singh could well be Shahid’s best performance till date.

The star cast

Besides Shahid, the film features Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in pivotal roles. All these actors are brilliant performances and hugely talented. Interestingly, ‘Udta Punjab’ is former couple Shahid - Kareena’s first film post their break up (Shahid is married to Mira while Kareena is Mrs Saif Ali Khan).

Songs

The songs have been a huge hit! ‘Chitta Ve’, ‘Dad Da Dasse’, ‘Ikk Kudi’, ‘Ud-Daa Punjab’ etc have been appreciated by lovers of Bollywood music.

Abhishek Chaubey’ss body of work is extremely impressive.  ‘Ishqiya’, ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ were directed by him. Besides these, he has been an assistant director for critically acclaimed films – ‘Makdee’, ‘Maqbool’, ‘The Blue Umbrella’ and ‘Omkara’. Moreover he has ‘Kaminey’ as a screenplay writer to his credit.
