Beijing: A Chinese television news programme censored footage showing the statue of David, made by Italian artist Michelangelo, by covering the statue`s genitals with a digital mosaic.
The statue was exhibited in Beijing July 9, as part of celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the National Museum of China, the China Daily reported.
The museum exhibited 67 masterpieces by renowned artists, mostly famous works from the Renaissance period.
However, the footage shown by the China Central Television (CCTV) covered the genitals of the statue with digital mosaic.
The move stirred a debate on internet, with netizens mocking CCTV`s lack of respect toward the work.
CCTV, however, removed the mosaic when it rebroadcast the programme later in the day.
