NEW DELHI: Popular Haryanvi singer Mamata Sharma, who was missing since past few days, was on Thursday found dead with her throat slit in Haryana's Rohtak. The police recovered her body from Rohtak's Banihali village and sent it for the post-mortem.

As per preliminary investigation, police suspect that the woman was murdered at some other place and her body was dumped by the killers in the field. The police have launched a probe into the sensational murder case. According to reports, Mamata was last spotted on January 14 as she had left her home to perform at an event in Kalanaur. However, she reportedly failed to reach the venue following which her son filed a missing complaint with the police on January 16.

In October last year, a 22-year-old singer was shot dead after she was returning to Delhi after a performance at a village in Panipat. Harshita Dahiya was shot six times in her neck and forehead and died on the spot on October 18, 2017. Later Police probe revealed that the young artist was murdered on the orders of her brother-in-law Dinesh Karala, a gangster. Dahiya had accused Karala of raping her in 2014.

Haryana has been in news since past few days following reports of several brutal gangrapes and murders. Six rapes, including gangrapes of two minor Dalit girls, have put the Haryana government in the dock.

Meanwhile, the Congress has slammed the Khattar government over its alleged failure to ensure safety and security of women and asked the Chief Minister to step down from the post on moral grounds. Alleging complete breakdown of law and order machinery in the state, the party is planning to hit the streets to protest against the BJP government.

On Wednesday, several people took to streets to protest against the government and burnt effigies of Haryana CM outside the Haryana Bhawan.
