Promising Asian model jumps to death

London, Dec 23: Sahar Daftary, an aspiring model and last year`s Miss Face of Asia, reportedly jumped to her death from her boyfriend`s apartment in Manchester following a break-up with him. Minutes before her death on Saturday night, the police received an emergency call from her boyfriend, identified by her friends as Rashid, seeking help. He has been arrested and later let out on bail.

She came to Manchester from London during the weekend to attend a fashion show at an Indian restaurant, but instead went to the high-rise apartment complex to clear out her possessions from Rashid`s flat. What happened between the time of her entry into the flat and her fatal jump is the subject for police investigation. According to her friends, Daftary, 23, began her relationship with Rashid, a property developer, earlier this year. However, six months ago, she discovered he was married and had a child too. They split up. While her friends said Daftary was emotionally disturbed since the split, it is also claimed she was perturbed by a video featuring her and an unnamed man posted on a publicly accessible website. It is suspected she feared the video may harm her career as a model. Possibly it was also one of the reasons behind the break-up. Her friend, Afrah Sami, told the Daily Mail: "She met him in Manchester and they were very happy. Then she won the Face of Asia competition and got several big contracts. She seemed to have the world at her feet. But she discovered he was married and she became very unhappy. The stress changed her and she had stopped eating properly. "When she came up on Saturday she was very distracted and preoccupied with collecting her things from the apartment, but he didn`t want to see her." Her brother-in-law Timor said: "She was a very nice girl. She used to be a model but she was studying. Her mother is heartbroken." IANS
