Success of Bengali films should be told outside Bengal: Mithun Chakraborty

Acknowledging that Bengali film industry is undergoing a resurgent phase, film star Mithun Chakraborty says it is high time the success story was taken outside the state.

Kolkata: Acknowledging that Bengali film industry is undergoing a resurgent phase, film star Mithun Chakraborty says it is high time the success story was taken outside the state.
Mithun said Tollugunje show-biz should now be presented to the film fraternity beyond Bengal`s borders.
Asked to comment on the closing down of numerous single-screen theatres across Bengal, Mithun said, "That is a reality. But again that was not solely caused by the theatres failing to make business. There were other factors in play as well," Mithun told reporters. Bengali movies are no doubt doing well and getting audience patronage, Mithun said at the launch of the first-ever portal ‘Tollygunge Dhamaka’ here yesterday. Mithun, who has completed shooting for a Bengali comedy, said, "Different genre of films, content-driven, or pure entertainers, are being made with a fresh approach. And that shows after the post-production work on screen." Mithun said he was confident this phase would not vanish anytime soon. "The new-age, talented directors and new producers are here to stay. I have worked with them and would love to be associated again. Bengal is again showing the way," he said after launching the website whose content is in English, catering to non-vernacular speaking audience, which forms a massive chunk of revenue earners. Actor Soumitra Chatterjee said he was happy to see these positive developments in Bengali film industry at this phase of his career. "Some good films have come out in recent times like Dutta vs Dutta and these recent trends and turns should be projected to the global audience," he said. "Tollywood Dhamaka gives cross-country recognition to indigenous talent - in both creative and technical fields," veteran actor and head of a production company Arindam Sil said. PTI
