Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday hailed the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to waive off farmers loans worth Rs 30,000 crore and stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has proved that announcement made during elections are not mere jumlas (sloganeering).

Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday hailed the Uttar Pradesh government's decision to waive off farmers loans worth Rs 30,000 crore and stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has proved that announcement made during elections are not mere jumlas (sloganeering).

The Shiv Sena chief stated that fulfiling the promises made during elections in the first Cabinet meeting is a matter of pride. 

Thackeray expressed his happiness over the decision to give sigh of relief to the Uttar Pradesh farmers and urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to adopt the same approach and bring about a smile on the faces of the farmers of the state as well. 

Today, keeping up to its poll promises made during the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the UP government waives off Rs 30,729 crore worth loan amount of the small and marginal farmers of the state. 

The decision will be benefitting at least 2 crore 15 lakh farmers of the state. 

Along with this, the government has also decided to forego non-performing assets worth Rs 5,630 crore of eight lakh farmers of the state.

Cabinet Minister Shrikant Sharma said that government has also decided to keep a target of 80 lakh tonnes of wheat purchase. 

Singh also intimated that the government would introduce 'farmer bond' for the welfare of the farming community.
