Resident doctors of Delhi call-off strike as AAP govt warns of strict action

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Tuesday night informed that the resident doctors of Delhi have called-off their strike and will join duties as soon as possible, a move that will give relief to a large number of patients.

“Resident doctors of Delhi call-off their strike,” Jain tweeted.

The decision to call-off strike came hours after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal warned the doctors of harsh action if they failed to end their agitation soon.

"We have agreed to all demands of doctors. I personally intervened. Yet they are not calling off strike. Why? What else is left now?" Kejriwal tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal-led AAP government invoked the ESMA against striking doctors who refused to join duty even after the city administration accepted their demands.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain had told reporters this morning that the AAP government has asked the agitating resident doctors to end their strike by 11 am today, failing which they will face action.

The warning from the government came a day after the AAP government accepted agitators' demands for proper security, accommodation and adequate availability of generic drugs in hospitals.

The doctors, however, decided to continue their strike.

The strike, which began on Monday and severely affected functioning in the 25 government hospitals in the capital, was the second protest by the resident doctors in the past six months.

The doctors had worn black badges in February for a few days seeking better working conditions.
