Mumbai: Expressing concern over the declining standards of education at all levels, Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Monady said, emerging India needs a world class education system which will produce leaders in every discipline.

"At a time when India is emerging as a first rate global power, we cannot continue with an education system that churns out ordinary graduates lacking skills," he said.

The Governor was speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Chembur Education Society here.

Rao said educational institutions must engage with scientific institutions and institutions of higher learning to make learning enjoyable and exciting for students.

He also said school managements should invite scientists and researchers from institutions like TIFR, BARC, ICT and others to interact with students and expose them to new ideas and experiments.

The Governor expressed confidence that India can provide teachers to the whole world provided the country empowered its teachers and strengthened the teachers' training institutions.
