Hyderabad: A Village Revenue Officer (VRO) and three others were on Sunday night booked on the charge of gang-raping a 21-year-old "mentally unsound" woman in Shamshabad in Hyderabad, police said on Sunday.
According to the complaint lodged by the woman, who belongs to SC community, one Chandramohan, a VRO dragged her into his house on March 5 when she was going to a shop and allegedly sexually assaulted her along with three others who were already in the house, Shamshabad Police Station Sub- Inspector N Bhaskar said.
The woman further claimed that she was threatened of dire consequences by the four if she informed the matter to someone resulting in delay in lodging the complaint, the SI said.
Following the complaint, a case under section 376(g)(gang rape) of IPC and relevant provisions of SC and the ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act, 2015, was registered against the VRO and three others, Bhaskar said.
A probe was on to verify the allegations in the complaint as during preliminary investigation the residents of Shamshabad have denied such allegations, the officer said, adding the woman will be sent for medical examination on Monday.
