Over Rs 3,481 crore released to J-K under PMRP: Minister

Over Rs 3,481 crore has been released so far under the Prime Minister`s Reconstruction Plan for construction and upgrade of infrastructure through various departments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu: Over Rs 3,481 crore has been released
so far under the Prime Minister`s Reconstruction Plan for
construction and upgrade of infrastructure through various
departments in Jammu and Kashmir, the Legislative Council was
informed today.

Against the revised cost of Rs 6438.75 crore, Rs 3481.59
crore under PMRP have been released so far and Rs 3217.45
crore spent under various sectors till February 2010 under the
programme in the state, The Minister of State for Finance
Manohar Lal Sharma today said.

An expenditure of Rs 1148.89 crore has been incurred till
December 2009 against total availability of Rs 2206.59 crore.

He said the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes
is being monitored regularly to ensure maximum utilisation of
funds available under these schemes.

Sharma said in Jammu and Kashmir, the state and central
government funds are executed by the state agencies.

Timber: The state Forest Department has sold 7.15 lakh
cft of timber worth Rs 10.94 crore in the sale depot of Jammu
division during 2001-2006, Law and Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar told the House on behalf of Forest
Minister.

The auction committee constituted by the Board of
Directors has also sold stocks of 66.97 lakh cft at reduced
rates of Rs 96.94 lakh during 2001-02 and 2002-03, he said.

Vehicles: As many as 7,23,655 vehicles are plying
in all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Transport
Minister Qamar Ali Akhoon said.

Of these, 1,25,109 vehicles are commercial and 5,92,838
are non-commercial, he said.

The minister said the Roads and Building department plans
to widen various roads which will ease out problems faced on
account of heavy traffic rush in Srinagar.

He said 12,894 commercial and passengers vehicles which
have been in use for more than 25 years have been phased out
in the state.

Motor Vehicle department has constituted traffic mobile
squads for checking unauthorised commercial vehicles, Akhoon
said, adding Rs 88 lakh was recovered from traffic violators
in the last fiscal.
