New Delhi: Uttarakhand BJP chief Bacchi Singh
Rawat was today removed from the post, making him the second
senior leader in the state to face action for the party`s
debacle in the Lok Sabha polls in May.

Former chief minister B C Khanduri became the first
casualty when he was replaced by Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

BJP President Rajnath Singh appointed Bishan Singh Chufaal
as the new head of BJP`s state unit after accepting Rawat`s
resignation on the directive of the party.

Rawat, along with BJP chiefs of other states where the
party had performed badly in the general elections, were asked
to resign soon after the poll results were announced. In
Uttarakhand, the party was defeated in all the five seats.

Earlier, Khanduri was virtually forced to put in his
papers as chief minister even after he had claimed support of
a majority of the 35-odd MLAs in the 70-member assembly.

The demand for removal of Khanduri, considered close to
senior BJP leader L K Advani, was engineered by his bete noire
B S Koshiyari.

Chufaal, who is a minister in the state cabinet, is a
three-time MLA.
