JNU students` no to increasing age bar in elections

The students union of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here Monday declined an offer by amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium to increase the age limit of students contesting elections to 30 years.

New Delhi: The students union of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here Monday declined an offer by amicus curiae Gopal Subramanium to increase the age limit of students contesting elections to 30 years.

The existing age limit is 28 years.

The counsel for the students union, Sanjay Parekh, declined the offer after it was recorded by the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan.

Subramanium had said the relaxation should be subject to students union accepting other conditions of a report submitted by former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh.
