Mathura violence: US-made rocket launcher found at Jawahar Bagh

Mathura: A US-made rocket launcher was found by the Uttar Pradesh bomb disposal squad from the encroached land in Jawahar Bagh area in Mathura district.

The deadly weapon was found when the security officials were searching the 280 acres of government land, which was encroached by Swadheen Bharat Vidhik Satyagrahi outfit.

Mathura SSP Bablu Kumar said, "We have recovered equipment (from Jawahar Bagh) which says "Launcher, Made in USA". He further said that officials are verifying the details.

The police is now probing as to who supplied the sophisticated weapons to the group.

The members of the obscure cult were heavily armed and outnumbered the police force which went to evict the encroachers from the Jawahar Bagh park last week on a court order. Grenades and automatic weapons were freely used against the police.

The temple town Mathura on June 2 witnessed massive violence, which claimed 29 lives, including an SP (City) Mukul Dwivedi and SHO (Farah) Santosh Yadav.

Meanwhile, facing flak for the inept handling of an anti-encroachment drive in Mathura by civil and police officials, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday ordered a judicial probe into the Jawahar Bagh violence in the town.

Doctors yesterday conducted post-mortem of Ram Vriksha Yadav, who had led the encroachers of Jawahar Bagh, and was among 29 killed in the clash with the police before he was cremated here.
