Varanasi: In what may sound like an Indian folklore to many, a man in Rajpur district of Varanasi wished to get married to a 'Ichchadhari Nagin' (mythical shape-shifting serpent creature ), a belief supported by his kith and kin, report claimed on Sunday.

According to the report, Sandeep Patel claims that he is a snake in human's body and should marry his female counterpart. The news of his marriage was then spread around through pamphlets and messages. This attracted around 15,000 people from nearby areas of Allahabad, Chandauli and Sonbhadra.

“Sandeep had traits of snakes since childhood. He walks, drinks and flickers his tongue like a snake,” said the priest in the wedding.

To avoid any stampede-like situation, police had to deploy extra force to manage the crowd.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Patel and his father Dayashankar have been arrested. The report also states that Sandeep once had a paralysis attack after which he began crawling.
