Kathmandu, May 28: Nepal`s royal government has detained 20 political activists who were staging protests against King Gyanendra, even as it re-arrested a former
Minister immediately after his release from prison.

  • Nepalese police arrested 20 political activists who were staging anti-government demonstrations in Baglung district as part of the seven-party alliance`s agitation for restoration of democracy, Home Ministry sources said today.

    The government, which yesterday released over 50 political detainees including several ex-ministers, re-arrested Nepal Communist Party-UML leader and former Minister Ishwor Pokhrel.

    Pokhrel was released from Rajbiraj Jail in eastern Nepal but was re-arrested immediately, according to party sources.

    Others who were released yesterday include Nepali Congress spokesman Arjun Narsingh K.C., former ministers Bimalendra Nidhi, Bhim Kumari Budhamagar, Suresh Malla, Mina
    Pandey and Dip Kumar Upadhyay as also ex-Parliament members Khem Raj Bhatta Mayalu and Tek Bahadur Chokhyal.
