10 Dangerous Nuclear Submarines In The World— Is India Among Them?

World's Deadliest Submarines: Indian Navy on August 29, 2024 inducted its second Arihant Class submarine - INS Arighaat to its fleet. It can reach speeds of up to 24 knots (44 km/h) when submerged and around 12-15 knots (22-28 km/h) on the surface. The INS Arighaat reportedly shares the same distinctive hump as the INS Arihant and is equipped with four missile launch tubes. Each tube can hold up to three K-15 submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) with a range of 750 km, or one K-4 SLBM with a range of 3,500 km. Both missile types are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, solidifying India’s nuclear triad.

Do you know that America, Russia, Britain, China and France are some of the nations that boast of possesing the world's most dangerous submarines. Several nuclear-powered submarines around the world have been recognized for their advanced capabilities, strategic importance, and lethal potential. These submarines play a crucial role in their respective nations' nuclear deterrence strategies, primarily through the deployment of ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear warheads. 1. Ohio-class (United States)

Ohio-class subs are Ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) and there are around 14 of them in service. It can carry up to 24 Trident II D5 ballistic missiles, each capable of carrying multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs). The Ohio-class submarines are the largest SSBNs in the U.S. Navy.

2. Borei-class (Russia)

India is also owner of Ballistic missile submarine. While two if these are in service, more are under construction. it can carry 4 K-15 Sagarika and/or 4 K-4 ballistic missiles. As the first indigenously developed SSBN, the Arihant provides India with a mobile and secure platform for its nuclear arsenal, significantly enhancing its second-strike capability.

These Ballistic missile submarine are most advanced but are in the final phases of construction. The US has planned to make 12 of these subs and these would be able to carry up to 16 Trident II D5 LE ballistic missiles. The Columbia-class is designed to replace the aging Ohio-class submarines, incorporating next-generation stealth technologies.

8. Yasen-class (Russia)

The nuclear-powered attack submarine are the ones to have most wide fleet with 19 of them commissioned, with more under construction. These can carry Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAM), Spearfish heavy torpedoes, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, and Virginia Payload Tubes (VPTs) for additional weapons including potential nuclear-tipped cruise missiles. The Virginia-class is among the most advanced SSNs.
