Vat Savitri Puja 2017: All you need to know!

New Delhi: Vat Savitri Puja 2017 will fall on Thursday (May 25 this year). On this day, married women observe fast for the well-being and good health of their husbands. Interestingly, this year, Vat Savitri Puja will be coinciding with Shani Jayanti.

It is believed that women pray by orbiting 108 times a Banyan tree during Vat Savitri Puja. As per belief, doing this on Thursdays is very beneficial. On this day, women take a bath in the morning and do every make-up associated with Suhag.

According to the belief, on this day, married women should pour water on the banyan tree and apply turmeric powder, vermilion and sandalwood to it. Fruits and flower are also offered to the tree.

According to legend Savitri tricked compelled lord of death to return the life of her husband Satyawan. She got her husband back under the banyan tree.
