PCB wants balanced, positive role of media

PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf has asked the media to cut down on negative reporting, saying it was imperative if international cricket has to comeback to the country.

Karachi: PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf has asked the media to cut down on negative reporting, saying it was imperative if international cricket has to comeback to the country.
"I think the media needs to be more responsible while reporting on cricket issues as there is lot of stress on negativity," Ashraf said.
"If we are to bring back international cricket to Pakistan I think the media will have to play a very positive role in this," Ashraf said. This is not the first time a sitting head has voiced his complaints about the role of the media in Pakistan. Ashraf`s predecessor Ijaz Butt had made no bones about his disliking for the media and rarely attempted to interact with them. Ashraf lamented that the media most of the time focused on negative things and played up trivial matters of Pakistan cricket, creating a poor impression about it. "The media has an important role to play and I think they need to be more balanced and positive," he said. Ashraf also a politician and experienced businessman has largely kept his relationship with the media very open but with the national team not performing well in Sri Lanka some of his decisions like his insistence on hiring a foreign coach in Dav Whatmore to replace the largely successful Mohsin Khan are already under scrutiny. His frequent visits abroad have also started to be questioned in the media. PTI
