New Delhi: Tennis ace Maria Sharapova has regained her fitness and is set to play in the first Major of the year – Australian Open, scheduled to start from next week.

Sharapova, ranked number five in the WTA rakings, withdrew from the Brisbane International last week with a forearm injury, sparking fears that the Russian might miss the Australian Open.

The 28-year-old won her only Aussie Open title in 2008. Last year she reached the finals, before losing the summit clash to top ranked Serena Williams.

However, local lad Nick Kyrgios' participation is still doubtful.

Kyrgios on Wednesday pulled out of his opening match at the Kooyong Classic with a right foot injury.

Now, only time will tell whether the 20-year-old would make it to the premier event or not.
