Martin funds banned school play

Martin is producing children`s banned play "Picasso".

London, March 16: Emmy award winning actor Steve Martin is funding the production of a children`s play "Picasso" which was banned by a US high school for its alleged adult content. The play was written by Martin in 1993 and the actor decided to produce the play after students were prohibited from staging it at the Lapin Agile at La Grande High School in Oregon as parents complained about its adult theme, the contactmusic.com reported.
However, Martin who was baffled by the controversy is offering to pay for the play to be performed outside the school grounds. The "Father of the bride" star in a letter to a local newspaper, insisted that the parents` claim that the play is about "people drinking in bars and treating women as sex objects" is incorrect. "The play has been performed, without incident, all over the world by professional and amateur companies, including many high schools," he wrote in the letter. The Drama teacher and play director Kevin Cahill is now making arrangements to stage the production at the nearby Eastern Oregon University. Bureau Report
