New York: Roger Federer began his quest for an 18th Grand Slam title defeating Donald Young of USa in straight sets to advance to the next round of the US Open here on Monday.
The world no 1 took 1 hour, 34 minutes to send Young packing 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
The Swiss’ run was ended in the semi-final by Novak Djokovic last year here.
He won the Wimbledon Title earlier this year and was the silver medallist at the 2012 London Olympics losing the final to Scot Andy Murray.
While, on the other hand Andy Murray, seeking to end his Grand Slam duck looked a little rusty as he went on to defeat Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 on the opening day.
