Kaneria wants to play in T20 tournaments during Ramazan

Karachi: Pakistan`s troubled leg-spinner Danish Kaneria has sought permission from the PCB to play in local T20 tournaments, held in the month of Ramazan.

Kaneria has also told the Board that he is ready to face any inquiry and that the PCB and its legal team should take up his case with the England and Wales Cricket Board. "The way things stand I see no future for myself in cricket because my case is being delayed and I am not getting justice from the ECB," he said. The leg-spinner, who has taken 261 Test wickets has not played for Pakistan since 2010 and has been suspended from playing any level of cricket by the PCB since last year after the ECB disciplinary panel found him guilty of encouraging Essex teammate Mervyn Westfield to spot fix in a county match in 2009. The ECB panel termed Kaneria a grave danger to the game. Another panel of the ECB also rejected Kaneria’s appeal this year to set aside the life ban imposed on him by the ECB disciplinary panel from playing in England. But the appeals panel is yet to give a full verdict on his appeal. "I recently met with PCB officials and I told them that since this case was dragging on in England for unknown reasons I couldn`t survive like this. I have requested them to atleast give me permission to play the local Ramazan T20 tournaments which are locally organised," he said. "I have also told the PCB I am willing to face any inquiry from them to get to the truth of my case because after what I have seen so far in the ECB hearings I am not getting justice," Kaneria said. Kaneria said he had asked the PCB to tell the ECB to send them the evidence they had against him (Kaneria) apart from the statement of Westfield on basis of which they had banned him for life. "In the appeal hearing Westfield confirmed he had gone to the West Indies to play for a English club although he was also banned by the ECB. No action was taken against him,”Kaneria noted. "I don’t think my playing in the local T20 tournaments should be such a big issue because my case is not clear and they are grey areas in it. I have lost my father because of this case and I say again I have not indulged in spot fixing and I am ready to face any inquiry or body apart from the ECB. I want to see this evidence on basis of which they banned me for life and robbed me of my livelihood." PTI
