Woman killed over dowry in UP

Badaun: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly killed over dowry in Chaahmir locality under Sadar Kotwali police station area here, police said on Saturday.

Seema Gupta, a teacher in a local school, was found hanging from the ceiling in her house yesterday morning following which her brother Rajiv has lodged a complaint against seven persons, including her husband and father-in-law, SP City Mansingh Chauhan said today. According to the FIR, Seema`s husband Kishan Gopal had a general merchant shop but was dependant on his wife for running the house because of his limited income. The in-laws also used to demand money from the victim`s parents and used to torture the woman when the demands were not met, the brother said in his FIR. He further alleged that Seema was killed in the night and later her body was hanged from the ceiling, the SP said. Hunt was on for the accused persons who are all absconding, the SP added. PTI
