London: Boy band One Direction has announced that half of the amount received from tickets sold for their upcoming UK and Ireland shows will go towards a cancer charity.
According to an estimate, the band would be donating around 200,000 pounds to Stand Up to Cancer charity, reported Sun Online.
Tickets for the band`s 2014 world tour would go on sale from today. One Direction is scheduled to perform in Dublin, Sunderland, Manchester, Edinburgh and London stadiums next year. The band that first gained popularity from `X Factor` is expected to announce more dates when the venues of the confirmed dates will be sold-out. "We`re so proud to be supporting Stand Up To Cancer while touring the UK and Ireland. Cancer affects nearly everyone at some point in their lives so we all need to do what we can to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured," Liam Payne said. "Stand Up To Cancer is all about bringing people together as a collective force and we hope our fans will get involved too," Payne added. "We`re over the moon that One Direction have chosen to support Stand Up To Cancer. The money raised will help fund ground breaking research specifically designed to have an impact within just a few years, bringing new and kinder treatments to patients sooner," Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said.
