`Housefull` is not for pseudo intellectuals, says Sajid Khan

Comedian-turned-director Sajid Khan, well known for his devil-may-care attitude says his recently released `Housefull` is not for pseudo intellectuals.

Mumbai: Comedian-turned-director Sajid Khan, well known for his devil-may-care attitude says his recently released `Housefull` is not for pseudo intellectuals.Terming himself as a 90 per cent audience and just a 10 per cent director, Sajid has lived life and made movies on his own terms and did not want critics` opinion to know that his film is good or bad.
"Nobody in the world loves cinema more than me. I eat sleep, love movies. I am nearly 40 and still unmarried because my wife would be the one who has been a movie buff like me since she was born. Do critics make a difference? `Housefull` is not a `leave your brains behind` kind of a film. It has a very intelligent screenplay," Sajid told reporters. When asked about the genre of the film which is touted to be a huge family entertainer, Sajid said, "`Housefull` is Sajid`s brand of comedy unleashed. I have made it keeping universal audience in mind. `Heyy Babyy` was a comedy with drama. It was actually a `dramady`, just like `Munnabhai` series. On the other hand `Housefull` is a romantic comedy entertainer." While assembling a huge star cast that of Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Lara Dutta, Arjun Rampal and Jiah Khan, Sajid said he didn`t want to disappoint his audience by any means. "That`s because I don`t direct movies for myself. I do it for those audience who come to watch a movie and buy tickets from their hard earned money. For them, it has to be money well spent when they see my film. "I know that there are 10 per cent pseudo intellectual people who like slow, boring, insignificant and non-entertaining films. But then for me, cinema is only about entertainment. It could be in any form, whether action, comedy, thriller or drama," Sajid said. Expressing his desire to make only entertainers, Sajid, "Nobody comes to watch a film to change their life. Has a film ever cured cancer, split an atom or changed society? Not at all. The sooner most directors realise it, the better it would be for Bollywood as it would stop delivering any flops." The filmmaker has been known for being buddies with Akshay, Riteish and Sajid Nadiadwala for quite a few years. Does he really think that such a close personal bond leads to a sense of convenience in one`s professional relationship as well? "Friendship does count after all. Also, it automatically reflects somewhere in our work also. Now I know for a fact that there are certain things that audience don`t like about me as a director so Akshay, Riteish or Sajid have all the liberty to talk to me about it. Similarly, I know that facet of Akshay or Riteish which I believe won`t be accepted by audiences," Sajid said. PTI
