London, July 07: Brought together by "his bereavement" and "her mental suffering", Jackie Kennedy and her brother-in-law Bobby Kennedy had an intense affair, claims a new book.
Dailymail.co.uk reports that C. David Heymann`s book titled `Bobby and Jackie: A Love Story` claims the affair was so intense that it was Jackie and not Bobby`s wife Ethel who ordered doctors to turn off his life support machine after he was shot in 1968, five years after his brother, then president John F Kennedy, was assassinated.
There are a few political insiders and celebrities who have been quoted in the book.
Franklin Roosevelt Jr, who worked with John F Kennedy in the White House, says in the book: "Everybody knew about the affair. The two of them carried on like a pair of lovesick teenagers."
Well-known author Truman Capote said: "It was the coming together of a man and a woman as a result of his bereavement and her mental suffering at the hands of her late lecherous husband. It was passionate, but it was doomed."
