Nicole Kidman launches anti-abuse centre

Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman voiced her concern about domestic violence after launching an anti-abuse center in San Francisco, California.

Los Angeles: Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman voiced her concern about domestic violence after launching an anti-abuse center in San Francisco, California.
The `Moulin Rouge` star who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Fund for Women, continued her crusade against domestic violence by speaking at the opening of the Family Violence Prevention Fund`s New International Center, a news website reported.
"There is no doubt that ending violence against women remains an urgent issue and belongs on centre stage. Solutions require action and investment, and strong partnerships like the one we`re announcing today between UNIFEM and Family Violence Prevention Fund," Kidman said. The newly launched centre inaugurated by the Australian actress will also provide assistance to aggrieved women who have suffered sexual or physical abuse. "We`ve been able to approach governments around the world and we`ve been able to say, `We want you to acknowledge your laws, change your laws and to speak out strongly`," Kidman added. The 42-year-old beauty had earlier appeared before lawmakers at the US Congress in October last year to talk about violence against woman globally, admitting that Hollywood "probably" played a role in contributing to acts of aggression.
