Rapper Dappy convicted for spitting in girl`s face

London: Rap star Dappy has a secret conviction for spitting in a girl`s face during a drunken brawl. He was handed a suspended jail term after admitting to assaulting a female fan. Dappy, real name Costas Contostavlos, had kept mum about the incident. But thesun.co.uk reports that he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault at Chelmsford Magistrates Court, Essex, last December.

The 22-year-old rapper met a female fan on an alcohol-fuelled night in Chelmsford and they went back to her hostel. Dappy then got into a fight with another woman living in the hostel. The first woman slapped him and spat in his face. In retaliation, he showered the girl and her friend with a hail of spit. The two women called cops and brought charges against the platinum-selling artist. Dappy pleaded guilty to the offences and for each count received four weeks` imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, to run concurrently and 100 hours community service. He was also ordered to pay USD83 (50 pounds) compensation and USD499 (300 pounds) costs. Earlier Dappy had glorified gun crime in a video recorded two years before "N-Dubz" shot to fame. He later apologised, saying: "`N-Dubz` are all about positivity." IANS
