New York: Paul Thomas Anderson’s pricey Hollywood film ‘The Master’, which was reportedly finding it difficult to get a 42-million-backing, now looks more relevant thanks to the Holmes-Cruise divorce and heated interest in the strange, secret world of Scientologists.
‘The Master’ is about an L. Ron Hubbard-like figure, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, who creates a faith-based organization circa 1952.
Anderson was concerned enough about the backlash that he screened the film, out Oct. 12, in May for Tom Cruise.
“It’s not about Scientology,” the New York Post quoted Hoffman as saying.
