Nine devotees killed in Haryana accidents

Nine people, including three children, were killed in two separate accidents in Haryana on Monday, police said.

Chandigarh: Nine people, including three children, were killed in two separate accidents in Haryana on Monday, police said.

Seven persons, including two children, were killed and 14 others injured when a pick-up jeep collided head on with a truck in Karnal district.

The jeep was carrying 21 devotees who were coming from Hardwar in Uttarkhand. The accident took place near Dhakwala Gujran village on the Karnal-Meerut highway, police said.

One person died on the spot while six others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital. Two people who were in a serious condition were referred to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.

In another accident on the Hansi road near Hisar, a woman and a child were killed when their vehicle overturned after hitting a cow.

The victims were from Paharganj in Delhi. They were going for pilgrimage to Rajasthan.

Police said a cow suddenly came on the highway, following which the vehicle collided with it and overturned.
