Watch: San Diego hospital lets kids drive to the operation theater

Kids at Rady Children's Hospital in California were driven into the operating room in a tiny Mercedes, BMW or Lamborghini.

New Delhi: Hospitals don't exactly have a pleasant atmosphere – while adults have the tendency to feel a churning in their stomach, a child's fear of hospitals and surgeries is beyond imagination.

Children who need to get surgeries done due to various reasons are bound to feel scared, especially at the sight of all those medical instruments.

But, a hospital in San Diego tried to make such children feel a little better and calm down before their surgeries, by letting them drive into the operation theater in remote-controlled cars.

Kids at Rady Children's Hospital in California were driven into the operating room in a tiny Mercedes, BMW or Lamborghini.

According to a report in the Mirror UK, Dr Daniela Carvalho, medical director at Rady Children’s Hospital told NBC San Diego: "It’s not just for the child to feel like this is a fun thing to do.

"But the stress of surgery falls on the parents too. When they see their child smiling, it makes the separation anxiety a lot easier.

"When they see these cars they just light up. They are happy."

The cars were operated by the doctor or nurse, who brought them in for their surgery.

As per the report, Dr Carvalho added: "The kids are having fun. The parents are seeing that they're relaxed and that they're happy. But for us, I mean, we're driving the car, we're having fun, too, of course.
