London: Ishant Sharma bowled his heart on the last day of the 2nd Test as India defeated England by 95 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. It was an emphatic win by the Indian team as a result of the seven-wicket haul from Ishant. Joe Root and Moeen Ali batted brilliantly in the first session, before the latter perished off the last delivery before lunch. After lunch, India came up with a strategy to test the Englishmen with short balls, and despite the counter-attack from Matt Prior and Joe Root, they stuck to it as Ishant bowled a barrage of bouncers to deflate the Poms. SCORECARD» | COMMENTARY» | REPORT» ========================================================================= England, 2nd innings: Over 88.2 || Score 223/10 Anderson is run-out, INDIA TAKE A 1-0 LEAD! Guess what, James Anderson defended the second ball of Jadeja's over towards covers and went for a suicidal single, paid the price for it. India win by 95 runs! Big big moment for the Indian team. JM Anderson run out 2 (6b) ========================================================================= Over 88 || Score 222/9 Ishant is bowling a probing length to both Anderson and Plunkett. Anderson was close to hitting one of the deliveries into the hands of close in fielders. Four runs from the over and Plunkett will be on strike in the next over. ========================================================================= Over 218/9 || Score 87 There was a huge appeal by Jadeja as his last delivery hit the Plunkett's pads as he missed the sweep. The umpire wasn't interested there but that looked pretty close. ========================================================================= Over 86 || Score 216/9 BROAD IS GONE! Ishant continued to trouble the English batsman with short deliveries and he bowled one to Broad, who got some part of his gloves on it, Dhoni took it cleanly and the umpire had no doubts about that one! Ishant Sharma picks his seventh wicket of the match! India just one wicket away from a record win! SCJ Broad c Dhoni b Sharma 8 (14b) ========================================================================= Over 85 || Score 212/8 After losing crucial wickets within a flash, Broad and Plunkett are trying their best to resurrect the innings. One can't call them tail-enders as these two are capable of hitting good knocks. Today, their country needs them to play two gutsy knocks against an Indian team, which is hungry to win a Test on the English soil. ========================================================================= Over 82 || Score 201/8 Ishant Sharma is bowling a magical spell here. Soon after dismissing Prior, Ishant banged another short ball to Ben Stokes, who mistimed it high in the air and was caught by Pujara at midwicket. Broad came to the crease and just two balls later, Ishant pitched another short ball to set batsman Joe Root, who hit it straight to Binny at deep square leg. England are in huge trouble here! India are now just two wickets away from an incredible win! Ishant Sharma is in the middle of a record spell and he has picked six wickets! JE Root c Binny b Sharma 66 (146b) BA Stokes c Pujara b Sharma 0 (6b) ========================================================================= Over 80 || Score 198/6 Matt Prior, who was probably playing for his career, was welcomed with a barrage of short deliveries by the Indian seamers. He hit two of them for magnificent boundaries, was hitting most of them from the middle of the bat, before hitting one straight into the hands of Murali Vijay at deep midwicket! MS Dhoni and the entire team is delighted with that dismissal. The ploy has worked! Earlier, Joe Root and Matt Prior made a confident start post lunch as they both scored two boundaries each off Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. Ishant bowled two short balls to Prior who pulled them for boundaries. MJ Prior c Vijay b Sharma 12 (11b ) ========================================================================= So it's lunch and the session belonged to England all the way with the visitors pulling it a bit in their way in the last ball. England need another 146 runs with 5 wickets remaining. Two more sessions to go. ========================================================================= Over 76 || Score 173/5 Ishant gets Moeen Ali in the last ball before lunch. The ball was banged in short and Moeen takes his eye off the ball and ducks into it - gloves to short leg and he's gone. What a breakthrough! Another twist in the tale. Ishnat has bagged his third wicket of the game. MM Ali c Pujara b Sharma 39 (147b ) ========================================================================= Over 75 || Score 172/4 Moeen Ali and Joe Root continuing England's attacking instinct. They have played better this morning as Joe Root brings up his fifty after plundering Ishant for three boundaries in the 74th over. Jadeja bowls the next and Moeen Ali sees it through. Just two runs come from the over. ========================================================================= Over 70 || Score 151/4 The Indian seamers are struggling on the final day as there is no assistance whatsoever for them in the pitch. Moeen and Root are now looking comfortable at the crease. There have been a few edges, which haven't carried to the fielders. India need some luck going their way as these two English batsmen are putting an excellent fightback here. ========================================================================= Over 65 || Score 142/4 India's search for the fifth wicket continues as both Moeen and Root are stitching a pivotal partnership from England's perspective. Dhoni is rotating his bowlers regularly but none of them have managed to get him that much-needed fifth wicket. Jadeja was brought back into the attack in the 65th over and two of deliveries kept very low, something which these two English batsmen would be wary of. The partnership is now worth 70 runs and England trail by 177 runs. ========================================================================= Over 60 || Score 137/4 After a few overs, Dhoni surprised everybody with bringing Dhawan into the attack. He bowled just one over post which Bhuvneshwar and Shami bowled from both the ends. Moeen and Joe on the other hand are getting confident with each passing over. England have a lot of depth in their batting order and India must pick a wicket now to get back in the game. ========================================================================= Meanwhile, Ravi Bopara has some advice for his team-mate Moeen Ali. Over 55 || Score 126/4 Ishant Sharma created a chance when he bowled one away from Root, who edged it to the slip cordon and the ball fell just short of Dhawan at second slip. Ishant has bowled with a good line and length so far. Meanwhile, Moeen and Joe are not hesitating in punishing the loose deliveries. This partnership is now worth 54 runs and it is now extremely crucial from India's perspective to dismiss at least one of these two batsmen. ========================================================================= Over 50 || Score 115/4 England are in a commanding position and MS Dhoni started off the innings with Jadeja from one end and Ishant Sharma from the other. Moeen Ali played a handsome cover drive off Ishant and scored a boundary. Conditions are very overcast at Lord's today and India will hate any rain. Ten runs scored in the last five overs. ========================================================================= By the way the news of the morning is that Sourav Ganguly will ring the bell to mark the start of Day five at Lord's. Indian batsman Virat Kohli comes out and is gearing up for a warm-up session. Day five of the Lord's Test match promises to be an intensely fought battle. Here is a look at the pitch. The final day of the second Test match at Lord`s enters into a situation with the hosts placed at 105/4 still needing 214 runs to win the Test match and a whole day to at least save it. Moeen Ali and Joe Root are at the crease and England need a heroic effort to save themselves. It ain`t impossible but the journey to get there on a fifth day wicket at Lord`s seems a tough affair. With an out of form Ben Stokes and unreliable Matt Prior, England`s hopes depend upon Root and Ali. India on the other hand is in the driver`s seat and it is a situation from where Mahendra Singh Dhoni would love to dictate proceedings. Jadeja, Shami, Ishant and Bhuvneshwar have bowled well as an unit and they need to strike at crucial junctures to see their team registering an unlikely win at Lord`s after a gap of 26 years. The weather is expected to be good and it will be interesting to see how the pitch shapes up as the day progresses.
